The ideology behind QBS HOME FOR AMAZING KIDS is "Education As Help To Life". This little institution aims to develop a generation of young learners who are equipped with life skills; filled with humanity; love to share their knowledge and expertise; take pride in their identity; are fully engrossed in their learning and work; choose their work with independence. QBS HOME aims to educate a generation of young learners who not only have learnt to respect nature but also acquired skills to protect it.QBS HOME FOR AMAZING KIDS is an educational venture right from the heart, but fueled with a purpose to bring knowledge, exposure, sensibility, awareness and passion to the young learners of today’s world regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic status, across all language, cultural and religious barriers. Their mission is to raise and educate a generation of young learners who utilize their learning outcomes in science, art, music, literature, crafts, sports, farming and gardening to improve their lives, preserve nature, protect all living creatures and spread kindness and compassion in the world in which they are growing.
QBS HOME was started in Feb 2020 , in a rented 3 room, 6 marla rented house in sleepy little dairy village called Zakheera surrounded by green corn and wheat fields and red mud hills in the outskirts of Islamabad, capital city of Pakistan. Most of the land around this village has now been purchased and developed into a modern housing society called Bahria Enclave. This 3 room house was painted, repaired, renovated, furnished and adorned with Montessori Material and many other learning activities material shifted from its parent institution NISHAN E HAIDER ALMA MATER, KARACHI,.. donated by its principal Mrs Batul Mansur. However the coronavirus pandemic engulfed the whole world and a country wide lockdown was imposed in March 2020. QBS HOME remained unfunctional till Aug 2020. In Aug 2020, brochures were published and distributed in the neighboring residential sectors. Slowly and gradually kids started trickling in. Interestingly, their first student with Roll no 1 was named Mohammad ‘’Qasim’’ Ansari. QBS is a home, not a school or academy or a center. Pupils at QBS HOME learn with love, attachment and personal initiative, just as Dr. Maria Montessori believed ‘’Doing what you like and liking what you do’’. QBS HOME has been affectionately named after the priceless memories of a 23 year old medical student Qasim Bin Saadat who passed away suffering from cancer.
All students are hailing from neighboring villages of Zakheera, Haji Market, Malot and Jagyot. By and large the total population of a household is around 7 + members. Certain kids come from broken families, single parent home or step parents’ situations. Fathers of these kids are engaged in manual labor like construction, house guards, home cooks. The fathers’ monthly income is generally around PKR 15000/to 20000/ per month. In some instances, fathers are alcoholics, ICE/Heroine/Hash/ Cocaine users. In other cases father may be doing a jail term for selling addictive substances or for murder. Certain fathers have abandoned the family and therefore do not provide for the family. In other cases, mothers have deserted the kids due to family feuds, remarried or simply disappeared. Most mothers are either home bound or work as domestic maids. Working mothers earn approximately PKR 10000/ per month.
Isma Sadat, home maker of QBS.
A 51 year old inspirational woman and the home maker of QBS. She has done double MA in literature and done multiple diplomas and courses in teaching from abroad. She is a single mother, of a son named Ghalib and daughter named Maya, who has no self income of her own.
Isma Sadat is a generous woman who doesn’t take a single penny from this institution. She started QBS in the memory of her late brother and to prove the world that, not only sons can carry their father’s name, daughters can too.
Inspiration
I really did put my heart in while making this documentary. I was inspired by this institution as I have a similar story to why it was established. When I and my collogues were suggested from our teacher to watch different documentaries to find inspiration, I found my interest in charity related documentaries.
The first documentary I came across was about an orphanage called "SOS village".
SOS is a very well known institution in Pakistan. I watched this documentary and felt a fire in my heart, as these kids have so much more to them. Then I went on watching more documentaries like this.
And another one
Watching these documentaries, I was determined to make mine on the SOS village. I started my research and while I was going through the web, I came across QBS page. I opened it out of the curiosity and found a similar story to SOS and myself. I dig into it more and more until I ended up standing on their front gate. I talked to the home home maker Isma Sadat. She told me about her self and took me to meet the kids there. I was over whelmed and inspired enough to start working on QBS home. At this point I knew exactly what I wanted to create and why it would be so important.
Idea Development
After I was inspired enough to work on QBS homes, I started spending hours and hours thinking and contemplating what I really want to show and what actually is important.
Days passed, I was still browsing on QBS when one day during the class, my teacher turned on a documentary to show us. Its called "The Freedom Fighters" a film by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
This 30 mins long documentary sorted all the tangled ends in my brain. I knew exactly what I was gonna do. Isma Sadat, the home maker of QBS, is also a freedom fighter yet no one is aware of it. I knew this was the link I had to grab.
Isma Sadat, a single parent, raising her kids as well as children of QBS with no take to home. I knew she is the a real fighter. From that day onwards, I started stalking her profiles to get to know her better. I called her a few times and paid her a visit as well. I found her story interesting and the work she is doing absolutely mind blowing.
Synopsis
Story begins with the village of Zakheera. Everyone having a tragic story and a background which if they say, the whole world would burn and if they keep inside, it will burn them from inside. Everyday struggles faced my the villagers and the environment they are living in. Isma Sadat, as a blessing comes to their life. Even if she cant do much, there is there to listen to their sorrows. Isma opens a school for their children where she is shaping the their new generation for a better future. While she is doing all that, no body hears the sorrows she has within. No one sees the struggles she is facing. No one knows her back story. And she finally talks about them. A true hero and a true warrior.
Proposals
This was the first and only proposal I presented from the very first day in the second week of September. It got rejected in the beginning, because I wanted to film it on a child from QBS.
I took my idea back home and brain stormed and when I saw the class documentary about freedom fighters, I proposed the idea of documenting Isma Sadat as a freedom fighter.
since that day I've been working and stalking this institute to get a hold of it more and more.
